About Bushido-Kai

Welcome to Bushido-Kai (official business name is McKinnon Academy of Martial Arts). Since Ray McKinnon started teaching in 1985 the goal was to one day have the largest multiple Martial Arts Academy in Atlantic Canada with a huge line up of certified instructors who bring their own experiences and training to the academy.

Moving into 2019 we have just that.

Being part of Bushido-Kai is being part of the history for Martial Arts in Nova Scotia. From being the first academy to promote Submission Grappling across the province, having Nova Scotia’s longest running Japanese Jujitsu class to having the Halifax’s areas longest running Kickboxing program. You can be sure your time spent at Bushido-Kai will be outstanding.

“Leading the way” has been our club motto since we began and we have been promoting the arts both provincially and internationally since 1985. The Bushido-Kai Academy and its students has been an ambassador for Jujitsu / Martial Arts for Canada around the world including Poland, Germany, China, Thailand and the United States.

Our club welcomes people of all levels from beginner to advance. On any given night you will find Black Belts from other styles, national champions from other countries, and local instructors from other clubs training right along with everyone else.

We welcome those who want to improve there skills, learn new ones and become part of an established Martial Arts family that is called the Bushido-Kai.
